Marcella R. "Sally" Diener, nee Thater, 89, Washington, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Cedarcrest Manor, Washington.

Sally, daughter of the late Frank Thater and wife Thecla, nee Lause, was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Washington. She was united in marriage to Eugene Diener May 28, 1949, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington. She was a member of the Washington Brass Band for over 35 years.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Diener; parents, Frank and Thecla Thater; two brothers, Marvin Thater and Frank Thater Jr.; and four sisters, Marilyn Schmitt, Pearl Obermark, Delores Thater and Viola Diener.
She is survived by one daughter, Barb Straatmann and husband Karl, Washington; one son, Bob Diener, Washington; six grandchildren, Sarah Straatmann, Kim Straatmann, Matt Diener, Marty Diener, Max Diener and Mason Diener, all of Washington; two sisters, Paula Weiskopf and LaVerne Weiskopf, both of Washington.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Krakow.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Gertrude Grade School.
The Diener family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
