Dr. Martha A. Reed, 74, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at her Hillsboro home.
Dr. Reed was born Aug. 19, 1944, in Chesterfield, the daughter of Allen E. Reed and wife Myrtle M., nee Miller. Dr. Reed received her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and was a magna cum laude graduate of St. Louis University School of Medicine. Board certified in internal medicine, she was a member of The American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Reed practiced medicine in Jefferson County for over 40 years, as well as being on staff at Jefferson Memorial (now Mercy-Jefferson) Hospital, and was the medical director for VITAS Hospice. She enjoyed traveling, studying genealogy, and hosting family gatherings, especially at Christmas.
She is survived by two sisters, Marcella Luechtefeld, Glencoe, and Mary Jane (Lloyd) Thebeau, Hillsboro; four brothers, David (Janet) Reed, Robert "Bob" Reed, Dr. Leslie (Mary Beth) Reed, and Roger Reed, all of Hillsboro; two sisters-in-law, Liz Reed and Linda Bauman Reed, both of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Amelia "Dolly" Thomeczek, Helen Hayes Agnello, Sarah Reed and Della Reed; four brothers, Don Reed, Eugene "Pete" Reed, Franklin "Frank" Reed and James Reed; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Reed and Waltraud "Trudy" Reed; and four brothers-in-law, Harold Luechtefeld, Norbert Thomeczek, George Hayes and Salvatore Agnello.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 9, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., De Soto, MO 63020.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Old Bethel Church, 3300 Highway T, Labadie, MO 63055.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
