Mary Jane Current, nee Vest, 85, St. Clair, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, in St. Clair. |
Mary, daughter of the late William Oscar Vest and wife Bertha Alice, nee Hall, was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Sullivan. She was united in marriage to William Arthur Current June 29, 1946, and two children came to bless this union.
Mary was a Christian and member of New Chapel Hill Church, Sullivan. During her working career, she was employed as a laborer by International Shoe Company, St. Clair, Brown Shoe Company and Bourbeuse Shoe Company, both in Union. Mary had a variety of interests throughout her life, including sewing and doing crochet. She also loved gardening, canning produce and baking. She was a very sweet lady who loved to spend time with her family. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart, as she did in theirs. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Current; parents, William Oscar and Bertha Alice Vest; three brothers, William "Bud" Vest, Donald Vest and infant James Vest; and three sisters, Susie Raines, Lillie Huff and Emma Bliss.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Hofmeister, St. Clair, and Brenda DeClue and husband Denny, Union; one sister, Alice Bishop and husband Glenn, Union; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Jim Watson officiating.
Interment was in New Chapel Hill Cemetery, Sullivan.
Memorials may be given to New Chapel Hill Cemetery, Sullivan.
The Current family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
