1942 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Mayme Ellen Downey, nee Hawkins, 85, St. Clair, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Union. Mayme, daughter of the late Harry Monroe Hawkins and wife Jennie Ellen, nee Bishop, was born Aug. 31, 1927, in St. Clair. She was united in marriage to Homer Charles Downey Jan. 16, 1942. Three children came to bless this union.

Mayme was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Charles Downey; parents, Harry Monroe and Jennie Ellen Hawkins; one daughter, Martha Bess; two brothers, Robert Hawkins and infant Edward Hawkins; and two infant sisters, Wilma Hawkins and Effie Hawkins.

She is survived by two sons, Roger "Gene" Downey and wife Karen, and Terry Downey and wife Christine, all of St. Clair; one brother, Jesse Hawkins, St. Clair; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; one uncle; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -neph-

ews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Mayme was a Christian, believing in the Lord as her Savior. She was a past member of First Baptist Church, St. Clair. For most of her working career, Mayme worked as a cashier at Ranch House and Mobil, two gas stations located in St. Clair. She had a variety of interests and hobbies throughout her life, including shopping and watching people through the window of her home. She was most happy spending time with and babysitting her many grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, as she did in theirs. The love they shared and precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Jim Watson officiating.

Burial was in United Methodist Cemetery, St. Clair. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Cemetery.

The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
