Norma L. Meyer, 91, New Haven, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at New Haven Care Center. |
Mrs. Meyer was born in New Haven Dec. 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Lafe Riechers and wife Pearl, nee Stout.
She was the widow of Walter H. Meyer. The couple was married Feb. 2, 1939, at St. Peter's U.C.C. Parsonage, New Haven. Norma was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Haven, and the New Haven American Legion Auxiliary.
She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens, walking her dog Harley, feeding birds, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, watching boats and barges going up the river and she was a great pen pal and enjoyed writing letters.
Mrs. Meyer worked for Blanke Plastics in Hermann for many years.
She is survived by her daughers, Frances Vollertsen, Ruth Wiemann, JoAnn Hasty and husband James, and Sharon Lias, all of of New Haven; and one son, Ray Meyer and wife Gail, Kirkwood; two brothers Harland Riechers and Kenneth Riechers and wife Betty, all of St. Charles; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Jeanette Ray; four sons-in-law, James Vollertsen, Jerry Ray, James Wiemann and James Lias; a sister, Gretchen Dennigman; and a granddaughter, Vicky Ann Hasty.
Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
Funeral services were heldFriday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David Poe officiating.
Burial was in New Haven Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to New Haven Care Center Activity Fund, c/o Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home.
The family was served by Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
