Richard C. Nichols, 79, New Haven, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at New Haven Care Center, New Haven.|
Richard, son of the late George R. Nichols and wife Carrie M., nee Thompson, was born July 23, 1934, in New Haven. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou McFarlin Oct. 27, 1956, in Yuma, Ariz.
Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was the superintendent for SKF Foundry. He also worked as a custodian and maintenance man for the New Haven School District.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Nichols, New Haven; two sons, Rick Nichols, New Haven, and Bob Nichols and wife Diane, Fenton; one daughter, Trina Meyer and husband Terry, New Haven; three grandsons, Chris Nichols, Fenton, Alex Meyer and Thomas Meyer, both of New Haven; one granddaughter, A-Kay Meyer, New Haven; and one aunt, Verlie Feltes, Leslie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George R. and Carrie M. Nichols.
Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
A memorial service followed, beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with Dave Rodgers officiating.
The family requests memorials be given to New Haven Care Center, in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
