Romuald L. Buescher, 82, Washington, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at his home. |
Rom, son of the late Alfred Buescher and wife Zita, nee Voelkerding, was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Alexandria, La. He was united in marriage to Joan L. Engemann May 11, 1957, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Cowan's Breakfast Club, Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Testing and Materials, Missouri Association of Professional Engineers, Missouri Association of Professional Land Surveyors and Missouri Water Works Association.
Rom worked in the graduate training program at Allis- Chalmers Manufacturing Company. He spent two years in the U.S. Army, and then worked for McDonnell Aircraft Corp. on F-101 aircraft, Project Mercury and Project Gemini spacecraft. He joined the U.S. Army Aviations Systems Command and Troop Support Command, spending 22 years in a variety of positions, including chief of quality engineering, chief of materials and structures for the directorate of flight standards and qualification, chief engineer of the AH-1 and AH-56 helicopter programs and deputy directory of systems engineering. He then founded and was president and principal engineer for Buescher Frankenberg Associates, consulting engineers and land surveyors. He also founded Buescher Ditch and Associates, which performs civil, environmental, mechanical and structural engineering and land surveying. He served on the Franklin County Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Board of Zoning Adjustment.
Rom was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Zita Buescher; five siblings, Joyce, Allen, Carol, Alfred Jr. and Father David; and one great-grandson, Kobe.
He is survived by his wife, Joan L. Buescher, Washington; four children, Judi M. Ditch and husband Jerry, Augusta, John R. Buescher and wife Jennifer, Black Forest, Colo., Thomas H. Buescher (Lori Ferguson), and Kristin L. Buescher, all of Washington; one sister, Janet Buescher, Montague, La.; 10 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Molly, Meghan and husband Mike, Joshua and wife Jessica, Samuel, David, Luke, Preston, Taylor and Makenzie; seven great-grandchildren, Bayleigh, Josiah, Eva, Romeo, Anyastasia, Kloie and Asher; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
A funeral Mass was held Monday, Dec. 16, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Krakow.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Masses may be said or memorial donations given to St. Gertrude Catholic Church.
The Buescher family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
