Sandra Kay Winkelmeier, nee Jennings, 63, Union, lost her battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, Thursday, April 11, 2013. She passed away peacefully in her home, with her family by her side.|
Sandy was born in Washington June 16, 1949, the daughter of the late Wesley Jennings and wife Judy, nee Weber. She grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. After graduation, Sandy attended Southeast Missouri State University.
On Nov. 11, 1978, she was united in marriage to David Winkelmeier Sr. in St. Louis. The couple made their home in the Washington/ Union area.
Sandy enjoyed crocheting, hats were her specialty, musicals at the Fox Theater and spending time with family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Judy Jennings.
She is survived by her husband, David Winkelmeier Sr., Union; two sons, Michael Winkelmeier and wife Kate, Marthasville, and David Winkelmeier Jr. and wife Angela, Wentzville; three daughters, Kristan Oberhaus, Costa Mesa, Calif., Katie Rice and husband Brandon, Union, and Jennifer Winkelmeier, Wentzville; seven grandchildren, with an eighth one on the way; three brothers, Monte Jennings, Lonnie Jennings and Farren Jennings; three sisters, Pam Taylor and husband J.D., Linda Bohannon and husband Gary and Becky Gable and husband Joe; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 20, from noon to 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Washington. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.
A celebration of Sandy's life will be held at 3 p.m. at the VFW Hall, Washington, after the funeral service.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mercy Hospice for its support during Sandy's final days.
