Susie M. Gildehaus Obituary
Susie Margaret Gildehaus, 102, Washington, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, in Washington.

Susie was born April 21, 1910, in Labadie, the third child of nine of the late Richard Wilhelm Koch and wife Cansadie Catherine, nee Caldwell.

She received her education at Bethel School, Labadie. On March 1, 1930, Susie was united in marriage to Aloys Henry Gildehaus at St. John the Baptist Church at Gildehaus. They were blessed with 11 children and they made their home in Washington.

Susie worked at International Shoe Co., Deb Shoe Co., Missouri Meerschaum Pipe Factory, Hawthorn in New Haven, as a cook at Cedarcrest Manor, and in the cafeteria at St. Francis Borgia School.

She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Church, Ladies Sodality and church quilters. Susie was an avid fisherman, gardener, cook, card player, quilter, and loved to entertain people at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aloys Henry, Aug. 21, 1979; three sons, Gilbert, in infancy, Orville Gildehaus and Elmer Gildehaus; two sons-in-law, Richard Straatmann and Merlin Kopmann; daughter-in-law, Marcella Gildehaus; two grandsons, Orville L. Gildehaus and Lee Gildehaus; four sisters, Dorothy Gildehaus, Goldie Meyer, Pauline Hall and Elizabeth Miller; and three brothers, Raymond Koch, Roy Koch and Earl Koch.

"Grandma" Susie is survived by four sons, Richard Gildehaus and wife Corine, Harold Gildehaus and wife Carolee, Larry Gildehaus and wife June and David Gildehaus and wife Judy, all of Washington; four daughters, Dorothy Straatmann, Villa Ridge, Doris Kopmann, Janet Schuetz and husband Bob, all of Marthasville, and Carolyn Peters and husband Bob, Washington; 45 grandchildren; 101 great-grandchildren; 49 great- great-grandchildren; one brother, Irvin "Whip" Koch and wife Liz, Washington; many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials to Friends of Emmaus, St. Francis Borgia Church or Masses are preferred.

The family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.
