Joy Jane Shaw, 92, Union, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Conroe, Texas.|
She was born April 17, 1920, in Carrollton, the daughter of the late Jesse P. Smith and wife Nellie, nee Williams.
She graduated from Carrollton High School. Mrs. Shaw then attended the University of Missouri - Columbia and graduated in 1943.
She was united in marriage to Rayburn Shaw Nov. 18, 1945, in Carroll County. They moved to Union in 1963.
Mrs. Shaw taught at Union High School, as vocational home economics teacher from 1963 until her retirement in 1985.
She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Union, and had been the organist there for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rayburn in 2003; one son, Glen Shaw in 1951; three brothers, Jess, Robert and Paul Smith; two grandchildren, Alison and Jason Minks; and three sisters-in-law, Neva Lilenkamp, Lila Walters, and Pauline Smith
Mrs. Shaw is survived by two sons, Dan Shaw and wife, Ruth, Washington, and John Shaw and wife Beverly, Union; one daughter, Mary Minks and husband Gary, Conroe, Texas; one brother, Jack Smith and wife Peggy, Springfield; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Leonard Shaw and wife Emily, California state, Orrin Shaw and wife Agnes, Lockwood; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 13, at the First United Methodist Church, Union, with the Rev. Graig Connell officiating.
Interment took place Monday, Jan. 14, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton.
