Ruth M. Nickerson, nee Thames, 87, Imperial, formerly of Washington, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, in St. Louis. |
Ruth, daughter of the late Charles Thames and wife Madeline, nee Swope, was born June 16, 1926, in Manning, S.C. She was united in marriage to Richard L. Nickerson May 30, 1953, in Manning, S.C. Ruth was a member of the Washington Volunteer Fire Company Auxilary, Elks Auxilary, Mariners Club and St. Peter's United Church of Christ. She also spent time volunteering for the St. Peter's Food Pantry. She loved her family, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Nickerson; parents, Charles and Madeline Thames; one grandson, Jimmy Pepper; one brother, Charles Thames; and one sister, Tootsie Serena.
She is survived by two children, Melissa Waterkotte and husband Rickie, Imperial, and Brian Nickerson and fiancee Amanda Brackney, Los Alamos, N.M.; 11 grandchildren, Johnny Pepper, Blake Pepper, Laura Pepper, Brittany Hyde, Maxx Waterkotte, Jake Waterkotte, Hayley Nickerson, Aaron Nickerson, Jesse Brackney, Matthew Vetter and Cameron Vetter; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Hyde, Briella Hyde and Kylee Waterkotte; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington.
A service followed, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Peter's Food Pantry or the Jimmy Pepper Wrestling Scholarship Fund, in care of the Anheuser-Busch Employee Credit Union, 1334 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold, MO 63010.
The Nickerson family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
