Loraine Edna Brune, nee Brendel, 88, Union, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Cedarcrest Manor, Washington. |
Loraine, daughter of the late Henry Brendel and wife Emma, was born Oct. 17, 1925, in St. Louis. She was the youngest of nine children. She lived much of her early years in the Bourbon area. She received her schooling at Dollar Mill School, Bourbon. She was united in marriage to George Brune June 30, 1945, at St. Francis Church, Bourbon. They made their home in the Washington-Union area, and eight children were born and raised by this marriage. Loraine's major devotions in life were to her family, music and her deep faith in Jesus Christ and His church. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Union.
In order to help provide for her family, Loraine worked at many jobs, including working in the factory at Deb Shoe, Webco and Hazel Manufacturing, Washington. She also worked at Permaneer, Armour Foods and Frazier Shoe, Union. Loraine was a lunchroom worker at Central Elementary School, Union, and a convenience store clerk in Union. In their retirement, she and George also operated a bicycle repair shop at their home in Union.
Loraine dearly loved music, and at one time sang with her sister, Betty, on the radio. She played country music in a band with her brothers and friends, and sang many years with the church choir at Immaculate Conception Church. She passed on that love of music to her family. Loraine did much volunteer work for such organizations as St. Vincent de Paul Society, Meals-on-Wheels, Union, and many church events. She spent many hours making brown scapulars for distribution locally, and as part of her continuing support of a Catholic priest and close friend, Fr. Yohannan Mulamoottil, and his mission work in India. She was a firm believer in the power of the rosary and the messages of Fatima.
Loraine was preceded in death by her husband, George Brune; five grandchildren; and all of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by eight children, Ron Brune and wife Pat, Leslie, Dianna Esslinger and husband Alfred, Norman Brune and wife Deborah, Dennis Brune and wife Debbie, all of Union, Larry Brune and wife Vicki, Pacific, Wanda Peters and husband Bob, Marthasville, Leon Brune and wife Cheryl, and Shirley Duffer and husband Mike, all of Beaufort; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brendel, Bourbon, and Bernice Brendel, Leslie; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild; many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 13, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with Monsignor Matthew Mitas officiating.
Interment followed in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union.
The Brune family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
