Sherman "Terry" Atherton, 73, St. Clair, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in Fenton.|
Terry, son of the late Robert Manuel Atherton and wife Rena Louise, nee Thomasson, was born Aug. 24, 1940, in Utica, Ky. He was united in marriage to Judy Swyers June 24, 1978, in Arnold. Terry worked as an iron worker for J.S. Alberici, St. Louis, and was a member of Iron Workers Local 518. He loved hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars or repairing anything.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Manuel and Rena Louise Atherton; two brothers, Melvin "Buddy" Atherton and James Atherton; and one sister, Gladys Brock.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Atherton, St. Clair; one son, Sherman Kit Atherton and wife Amanda, Robertsville; two daughters, Tami Atherton and husband Steve Mesa, Pacific, and Tricia Mills and husband Jim, St. Clair; one sister, Eloise Wolf and husband John, New Jersey state; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Mesa, Tiffany Mesa, Melissa Mills, Noah Mills, Lexis Butler, Dominik Atherton and Tyson Atherton; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Midlawn Funeral Home, Union.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Ison officiating.
Interment will be at Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union.
Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
