Willard Benjamin Maune, 84, Union, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014.|
Mr. Maune, son of the late Frank Maune and wife Erma, nee Fink, was born Aug. 10, 1929, in the family home in Union.
Mr. Maune was baptized, confirmed, married and a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ, Union. He was united in marriage to Virginia Evans at Zion United Church of Christ in April 1958.
Mr. Maune graduated from Union High School in 1947, where he especially enjoyed classes in shop, drafting, and auto mechanics. A lifelong learner, he participated in Master Technician Monthly Service conferences from 1949 to 1954, completed a 10-week welding program in 1966, National Electrical Code courses in 1978, and graduated from East Central College in 1982, with a one-year certificate in air conditioning and refrigeration.
From 1947 through 1961, he worked as an auto mechanic/ service manager at Thomas J. Danz Dodge and Plymouth, Union, Washington Motor Company, Leo J. Peirick, and Haberberger Motor Company. For many years, he operated his own shop, Maune Repair, Union. He worked at Robert J. Danz Mobile Homes in the 1960s and '70s. In 1976, he became part of the maintenance team at the Union R-XI School District, a position he held until his retirement.
Mr. Maune was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Erma Maune.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Maune, nee Evans; two daughters, Joyce Maune Brown and husband Danny, and Gail Maune Flammond and husband David; and two grandchildren, Alex Flammond and Blair Flammond.
Burial was in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Zion U.C.C. debt reduction.
The Maune family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
