Alice Rathgeber, nee Martin, 82, Union, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, in St. Clair. |
Alice, daughter of the late Robert Martin and wife Ellen, nee Birmingham, was born July 23, 1931, in Union. She received her education at Immaculate Conception Grade School, Union, and graduated from Union High School in 1949. Alice was united in marriage to Wayne Rathgeber Dec. 9, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, by the Rev. Ross. The couple made their home in Union. Alice was employed as a secretary at her husband's American Family Insurance agency. She retired Nov. 30, 1995. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, American Legion Post 297 Ladies Auxiliary and the Western Catholic Union.
Alice is survived by her husband, Wayne Rathgeber, Union; one son, Tom Rathgeber, Beaufort; three daughters, Karen Landwehr and husband Mark, Wildwood, Kathy Losson and husband Mike, and Carol Stieffermann and husband Kenny, all of Union; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hanebrink and husband Tom, Amanda Landwehr, Matthew Landwehr, Ryan Losson, Tim Losson and Kevin Losson; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Hanebrink, Zachary Hanebrink and Abbigail Hanebrink; one sister, Mary Diekmann, Union; three sisters-in-law, Alice Rathgeber, High Ridge, Bernice Rathgeber, St. Clair, and Dora Eisenhaur, Eureka; one brother-in-law, Bill Anderson, Eureka; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ellen Martin; and three brothers, Tom Martin, Walter "Fat" Martin and Mike Martin.
A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with Monsignor Matthew Mitas officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice or American Legion Post 297 Ladies Auxiliary.
The Rathgeber family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
