She was born March 26, 1939, in St. Louis, the daughter of Anthony Birkenmaier and wife Katherine, nee Goetter. Carol was united in marriage to Robert Charles Gutterman in October of 1965. They celebrated 16 years of marriage before he passed away in May of 1982. She then found love again and married Paul Nichols July 24, 1996. They celebrated 16 years of marriage before he passed away July 20, 2012. Carol was a very devoted wife and mother.
Carol retired from Beacon Shoe Company after 20 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Warrenton. Carol loved going on vacation and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.
She is survived by one son, Jeff Gutterman and wife Jeanne; one daughter, Jill McCann and husband Dr. Ryan; six grandchildren, Aaron Gutterman and wife Ayumi, Jeffery Gutterman, Alexis Kohler, Grace Godfrey, Hunter McCann and Kellen McCann; five great-grandchildren, Kaito, Sera, Lua, Reign and Payton; one sister, Shirley Teal; many other relatives and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her two husbands, Robert Gutterman and Paul Nichols; and parents, Anthony and Katherine Birkenmaier.
Visitation was held Monday, April 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, Warrenton.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, April 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Troy.
Burial followed at Warrenton City Cemetery, Warrenton.
