1933 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
LaVerne T. "Pogo" Rettke, nee Aholt, 80, Washington, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, in Washington.

LaVerne, daughter of the late Anthony Aholt Sr. and wife Lidwina, nee Struckhoff, was born May 25, 1933, in Augusta. She was united in marriage to Dale B. Rettke Nov. 19, 1955, in Union. "Pogo" dearly loved taking care of the kids in her home daycare for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, bowling and collecting salt and pepper shakers.

LaVerne is survived by five children, Curt Rettke and wife Susan, Kevin Rettke and wife Mindy, Karen Sickmann and husband Kurt, all of Washington, Sandra Westhoff and husband John, and Ava Diermann and husband Timothy, all of Marthasville; seven siblings, Jerome Aholt and wife Jane, Robert Aholt and wife Audrey, Wilbert Aholt and wife Kathy, all of Augusta, Elizabeth Peters and husband James, Anna Schulze and husband Kenneth, Marcella Noelker and husband Leon, all of Washington, and Anthony Aholt Jr. and wife Carol, Dutzow; 13 grandchildren, Corey (Stephanie), Lauren (Justin), Abigail, Allison, Austin, Megan, Sarah, Hannah, Jacob, Jessica, Nathan, Jared and Jamie; five great- grandchildren, Wyatt, Cole, Gracie, Benjamin and Jodi; one sister-in-law, Shirley Elbert and husband Charles; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale B. Rettke; parents, Anthony Sr. and Lidwina Aholt; three siblings, Ethel Jasper, John Aholt and one sister in infancy; three siblings-in-law, Wilbert Jasper, Patricia Aholt and Doris Speckhals and husband Delmar.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Miller Funeral Home, Washington.

A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington.

Interment followed at 12:45 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis. Memorial donations may be given to the or St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.

The Rettke family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
