Wilbert G. "Whip" Unnerstall, 86, Washington, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014. |
Mr. Unnerstall, son of the late Otto Unnerstall and wife Clara, nee Tobben, was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Washington. He received his education and graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from October 1950 to October 1952. He was united in marriage to Joyce Feldmann Sept. 5, 1955, at St. Ignatius Church, Concord Hill. They made their home in Washington. Mr. Unnerstall worked in the parts department, and later became a successful salesman at Modern Auto Company, Washington. He retired in September
1999. Mr. Unnerstall was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Lourdes Holy Name Society. He also was an Alphabet Chairman Usher and a member of the Pro-Life Club. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 30 years.
Mr. Unnerstall is survived by his wife, Joyce Unnerstall, Washington; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Unnerstall and wife Sue, and Craig Unnerstall, all of Washington; three daughters, Carleen Glosemeyer and husband Donald, Marthasville, Connie Kuenzel and husband Keith, and Carol Bell and husband Arthur, all of Washington; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lester Unnerstall and wife Brooksie, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Clara Unnerstall; two brothers, Orville Unnerstall and Kenneth Unnerstall; and one granddaughter, Emma Kuenzel.
A funeral Mass was held Saturday, May 17, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Washington, with the Rev. Michael Boehm officiating.
Burial, with full military honors, was in Ascension Cemetery, Washington.
