Jesse F. Mitchell Obituary
Jesse F. Mitchell, 86, St. Clair, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home, St. James.

Jesse, son of the late Harold Mitchell and wife Florence, nee Miner, was born Nov. 8, 1927, in St. Louis. Jesse served his country in the U.S. Army from April of 1946 to June of 1960, receiving the rank of sergeant E5. His citations include, VA-Civil Service 1960-1974, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with BZ/CL W 3 Lps, World War II Victory Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star. His overseas service included Korea, Germany, Philippines and Okinawa.

Jesse was a faithful member of St. Clair Southern Baptist Church and the American Legion, St. Clair. He was very active with the Senior Center, St. Clair, and volunteered his time to help with anything he could. Jesse was well liked by anyone he met, and had a great personality.

Jesse is survived by two sisters, Lourine Mitchell, St. Clair, and Darlene Pendleton and husband Ronald, O'Fallon; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Mitchell; parents, Harold and Florence Mitchell; and one sister, Agnes Travis.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at St. Clair Southern Baptist Church, St. Clair.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at the church, with Pastor Bill Savage officiating.

Interment, with full military honors, will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Memorials may be given to Missouri Veterans Home, St. James, or St. Clair Southern Baptist Church, St. Clair.
