Ida Mae Gerding, 79, of rural Montgomery City, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at New Florence Nursing and Care Center.|
Mrs. Gerding was born Jan. 11, 1935, in Troy, to Fred Pollien and wife Lydia, nee Sanker. On Jan. 11, 1959, she married Ralph Florence Gerding in Lincoln County. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1993. Mrs. Gerding lived in the Lincoln County area most of her life until around 1965 when they moved to the farm in Montgomery County. Mrs. Gerding was a very hard worker on the farm, enjoyed gardening and canned many things, was a wonderful cook and made all the wildlife and fish that her boys caught delicious. She loved visiting with all her family and many friends.
Mrs. Gerding is survived by four sons, Ralph Gerding, Jr. of Columbia, William "Bill" F. Gerding, James R. Gerding and wife Shari, and Walter F. Gerding and wife Carolyn, all of rural Montgomery City. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Grayson, Benjamin and Annalise Gerding; one step-grandchild, Corinne Maietti; three sisters, Lillian Strack of Harrisonville, Helen Lester of Troy, and Anna Marie Warner of St. James; sister-in-law, Doris Gerding of rural Montgomery City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Gerding was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gerding; parents; infant son, Richard Gerding; sister, Dorothy Herzberg; and several brothers-in-law.
Visitation was held Friday, June 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schlanker Funeral Home, Montgomery City.
A funeral service was held Saturday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Chris Meyer officiated.
Interment followed in the Nettle Cemetery, near Mineola.
