Gene Spargar Kimbrough, 88, Union, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at his home.|
Gene, son of the late Gilbert Kimbrough and wife Ruth, nee McPherson, was born July 24, 1925, in St. Joseph. He received his schooling in Clark. Gene was united in marriage to Marjorie Colley in Centralia. They made their home in Clark, and moved to Union in 1956. Mr. Kimbrough served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Horse Cavalry. Gene worked in construction; he owned and ran his own construction company, Kimbrough Construction.
Gene is survived by one daughter, Marolyn Ellerbrook and husband Steven, Union; one sister, Lucille Keeton, Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Mertzlufft and husband Bill, Kimberli Baker and husband Chris, and Jonathan Weddle and wife Whitney; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Tyler, Melanie, Taylor, Ashton, Landon, Greyson and Sawyer Jean; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Kimbrough; his parents, Gilbert and Ruth Kimbrough; one grandson, Timothy Schaves; one sister, Katherine Sharp; and one son-in-law, Michael Weddle.
Visitation was held Tuesday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at Grace Family Church, Union, with the Rev. Carl Bay officiating.
Interment followed in Midlawn Cemetery, Union.
The Kimbrough family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
