Mamie May Million, nee O'Brien, 88, St. Clair, departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, in Washington.|
Mamie, daughter of the late John Edward O'Brien and wife Mayme May, nee Rettig, was born April 23, 1926, in East St. Louis, Ill. She was united in marriage to Clifford Harold Million May 19, 1945, and six children came to bless this union.
Mamie was a Christian believing in the Lord as her Savior. She was raised in the Catholic faith, and in more recent years visited a Baptist church. During her working years, she was employed in the shoe manufacturing industry, having worked at both International Shoe Company, St. Clair, and Wolff Shoe Company, Union. Mamie was an active lady, staying busy caring for her home and family. She enjoyed cooking and gardening in her younger years. In recent years, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, feeding the hummingbirds and watching her favorites on television. She was fond of her little Chihuahua "Bruiser," and he was her constant companion. Nothing made Mamie happier than when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, as each of them held a special place in her heart.
Mamie is survived by two sons, Ronald Million and wife Diann, Rolla, and Edward Million, Bonne Terre; four daughters, Mayme Hemphill, Stonewall, La., Carol Phillips and husband Bill, Nancy Pope Johnson and husband Larry, and Brenda Million, all of St. Clair; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Million; parents, John and Mayme O'Brien; one son-in-law, Ricky Pope; one great-great-grandchild, Callie Brooke Beason; four brothers, Bob Walsh, John O'Brien, Frank O'Brien and Michael O'Brien; and two sisters, Kathryn O'Brien and Julia Thorn.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Glenn Hammond officiating.
Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair.
