Dorothy Whitworth Obituary
Dorothy "Dottie" Whitworth, nee Mittendorf, 83, Columbia, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at home.

Dorothy, the youngest daughter of Frank Mittendorf and wife Gertrude, was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Canaan. Upon graduation from high school in Union, Dorothy worked for several years as a stenographer for the Division of Family Services. In 1951, she moved to St. Louis where she secured employment as a stenographer with the FBI. She was united in marriage to Orville Whitworth Dec. 29, 1956. In 1963, the couple moved to Columbia where she lived the remainder of her life. Before her retirement in 1995, Dottie enjoyed working for 22 years as a member of the support staff at Rock Bridge High School, where she made many dear friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Orville Whitworth, Columbia; one son, Steven Whitworth and wife Shoko, Benicia, Calif.; one daughter, Sara, Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Eleanor Strohmeyer, Springfield; and one niece, Sherrie Flashofsky, Leesburg, Fla.

Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Columbia.

A funeral Mass followed, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church.

Interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia.

Memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Columbia, or a charity of donor's choice.
