Gladys Louise Helmig, 70, Beaufort, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in Creve Coeur.|
She was born July 23, 1942, in Beaufort, the daughter of the late Vincent Schmuke and wife Elizabeth, nee Haberberger.
Mrs. Helmig received her education at St. Joseph School, Neier. On Oct. 15, 1960, she was united in marriage to Joe Helmig at St. Joseph Church and they made their home in Beaufort.
Mrs. Helmig retired in 1998 after working many years as a carpenter at Spartan Showcase Manufacturing, Union.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Neier, Ladies Sodality and the quilters group.
Mrs. Helmig was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie, in 2003; three brothers, Clarence "Pinky" Schmuke, Louis Schmuke and Vincent "Spud" Schmuke; five sisters, Elsie Voss, Leona Skouby, Ceclia Randolph, Adele Enke and Betty Nowack.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Helmig, Beaufort; two sons, Russell Helmig and wife Linda and Roger Helmig, all of Beaufort; two daughters, Lesa Girardier and husband Lanny, Union, and Lori Edelen, O'Fallon; 11 grandchildren, Justin and Megan Girardier, Brent, Brandon and Brittany Edelen, Kyle and Carter Helmig, Ben Gadcke, Colten Helmig and Courtney and Cassandra Estes; five great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Neier, with the Rev. Kevin Schmittgens officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials to the St. Joseph Church Building Fund or Masses are preferred.
