Vernon W. Scheer, 83, New Haven, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at New Haven Care Center.|
Mr. Scheer was born in New Haven April 12, 1929, the son of the late Emil Scheer and wife Clara, nee Ohse.
He was the husband of Carolyn Scheer, nee Niewald. They were married April 23, 1955, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven.
Mr. Scheer is survived by his wife, Carolyn Scheer, New Haven; four sons, David Scheer, Union, John Scheer and wife Sharon, Tim Scheer and wife Michele and Jim Scheer and wife Angie, all of New Haven; daughter, Ruth Steinhoff and husband Ray, New Haven; one brother, Larry Scheer and wife Carolyn, New Haven; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven, the New Haven American Legion Post 366, a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce and a Sunday school superintendent for many years.
In 1956, Mr. Scheer started Bauche & Scheer Sales and Service. In 1968, he went out on his own and started Scheer Sales and Services which he owned and operated until his retirement. Mr. Scheer also raised some cattle on the farm. He loved to hunt and fish.
Visitation was Monday, Feb. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or New Haven Care Center, in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
The family was served by Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
