Vernon Marquart, 78, Washington, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.|
He was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Washington, the son of the late William Marquart and wife Martha.
Vern was united in marriage to Katie Buhr June 23, 1956, and the couple made their home in Washington.
He kept himself busy with his beer distribution business. Marquart Distributing Company was named a distributor of Griesedick Brothers Brewery Company Wholesalers Sept 30, 1957. The company also became associated with Anheuser-Busch Inc. Wholesaler Nov. 20, 1957. The company merged with Dustman Distributing in January 1999, forming Marquart Beverage Company, expanding the service area into Warren, Montgomery and part of St. Charles County. Upon the completion of the merger, Vern retired after more than 40 years as a beer wholesaler.
He remained active in the community by serving on the board of directors of Bank of Franklin County. He also found time to be involved with the Lions, Hummingbird, Buhr's, Sharpshooters and Elks clubs. In addition, Vern was active with the Hermann Eagles, St. Francis Borgia Regional High School Athletic Association and was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Marquart; parents, William and Martha Marquart; and two brothers, Bob and Keith Marquart.
Vern is survived by his two sons, Michael Marquart and wife Shelley, Washington, and Charles "Chuck" Marquart, Leslie; three daughters, Mary Lou Glosemeyer and husband Paul, Madison, Ala., Barbara Wallach and husband Jerry, and Julie Straatmann and husband James, all of Washington; two brothers, Glen Marquart and wife Jean, Union, and Bill Marquart and wife Karen, Dutzow; two sisters, Betty Dobsch and husband Roland, Washington, and Carol Kluba and husband Wayne, Morton, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Melinda Marquart, St. Louis County, and Rosemary Marquart, Union; 11 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 25, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Memorials to the All Abilities Park or St. Francis Borgia Regional High School Athletic Association are preferred.
The family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
