Gary V. Jones, 72, Bolingbrook, Ill., formerly of St. Louis and Leslie, passed away peacefully Monday, March 4, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. |
Gary was born Dec. 24, 1940, in Braggadocio. He was the cherished husband of Diann "Sue" Jones, nee O'Neal. The couple were united in marriage for 53 years.
Gary also was the beloved father of Andrew (Melanie) Jones, Plainfield, Ill., and Jeanette "Nicki" Fagust, Bolingbrook, Ill.; loving Poppy of Taylor and Dalton Jones and Brandon and Emma Fagust; fond brother of Julia Frances (Weldon) Crawford, St. Louis, the late Floyd (Audrey) Jones, Ferguson, the late Billy Joe (Martha) Jones, Dittmer, Paula (Chuck) Beard, Ballwin, and Pamela (Jeff) Boyher; dearest uncle of many; and best friend and master of Bruiser and Bandit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lillian Jones.
Gary was an avid golfer and woodworker, especially hand crafting furniture. He had a love for flying and was a member of the Chicago Gliders Club. Gary had a passion for sport shooting and specifically teaching proper sport shooting techniques.
He joined the Army National Guard in the early 1960s and then the Air National Guard. His time spent in the service was centered around music, especially entertaining troops and officers in the Army and Air National Guard bands.
Gary's work career centered around traffic control lighting and devices. He started out working for the Wellsbach Electric Company, St. Louis, and later for the Traffic Control Corporation of Lombard and the Midwest Traffic Products of Romeoville, where his title was vice president, president and later CEO.
Visitation will be Friday, March 8, from 3 until 8 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Road, Plainfield, IL 60544 (corner of Routes 30 and 59).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Plainfield Township Cemetery, Plainfield, Ill.
