Helen P. Unnerstall, nee Spaunhorst, 88, Washington, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, in New Haven. |
Helen, daughter of the late Fred Spaunhorst and wife Elizabeth, nee Patke, was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Villa Ridge. She received her education from St. John's- Gildehaus School, Villa Ridge. She was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Unnerstall Sept. 24, 1947, at St. John's-Gildehaus Church, Villa Ridge.
Helen was a member of St. Francis Borgia Ladies Sodality, the quilting club and the WCU. She also was a member of St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, for over 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Unnerstall; one daughter, Linda Ann Unnerstall; parents, Fred and Elizabeth Spaunhorst; and three sisters, Agnes Spaunhorst, Anna Spaunhorst and Rose Spaunhorst.
Helen is survived by two sons, Glen Unnerstall and wife Beverly, Beaufort, and Ron Unnerstall and wife Donna, Washington; two daughters, Darlene Peters and husband Gerald, Chesterfield, and Karen Kuchem and husband Michael, Washington; one brother, Alfred Spaunhorst and wife Bernice, Villa Ridge; 10 grandchildren, Dr. Debra Kirk and husband Jeffery, Jason Peters and wife Laurenda, Steven Unnerstall, Mark Unnerstall and wife Carrie, Annette Stahlman and husband Tim, Jill McNeil and husband Brian, Patty Parks and husband Blair, Kim Blemker and husband Zak, Michelle Unnerstall and significant other Justin Allemann, and Jenny Kuchem and husband Greg Struckhoff; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, April 5, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with the Rev. Andrew Sigmund officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Borgia Grade School or St. Francis Borgia Regional High School.
The family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
