Shirley Curtis, nee Selby, 79, Annandale, Va., formerly of Warrenton, passed away with her daughter, Marsha Curtis, by her side Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Golden Living Sleepy Hollow Nursing Center, Annandale, Va.|
Mrs. Curtis, the daughter of James Vanmetreman Selby and wife Ethel Melalee, nee Brown, was born Dec. 19, 1933, in St. Louis.
She was united in marriage Dec. 10, 1955, to Elmer C. Curtis in St. Louis. They celebrated 23 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1978.
Mrs. Curtis is survived by one son, Larry J. Curtis and wife Maria, Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Marsha G. Curtis, Washington, D.C., and Debora L. Day and husband Shannon, Warrenton; one brother, James F. Selby, Linn Creek; nine grandchildren, Leslie Leuenberger, Kevin Feb, Corey Feb, Julie Feb, Danny Day, Katie Curtis, Rebecca Curtis, Theresa Curtis and Christopher Masino; one great-grandson, Clifton James Curtis; one great-grand- daughter, Kennedy Michelle Masino; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer Curtis, who passed away July 13, 1978; and parents, James and Ethel Selby.
Mrs. Curtis was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She loved attending church and reading her Bible. Mrs. Curtis was a kind-hearted person who never knew a stranger and had a smile for everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A visitation was held Tuesday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at Martin Funeral Home, Warrenton.
A funeral service followed at noon at the funeral home with burial at 2 p.m. in St. Charles Memorial Gardens, St. Charles.
