Ruth Evelyn Schmelz, nee Williams, 87, Union, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, in Washington.|
Mrs. Schmelz, daughter of the late Clyde Williams and wife Bessie, nee Catron, was born July 21, 1925, in Union. She received her schooling at Union High School, graduating in 1943. She was united in marriage to Robert Schmelz Sept. 7, 1946, at First Baptist Church, Union.
Mrs. Schmelz was a member of First Baptist Church, Union, since 1931. Most would know her from playing the piano for the Sunday school class. She was a homemaker and worked at Mercy Hospital Washington as a bookkeeper and office worker.
Mrs. Schmelz was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schmelz; one daughter, Linda Lenau; parents, Clyde and Bessie Williams; stepmother, Vergie Williams; and one granddaughter, Kelly Ann Schmelz.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Robert Schmelz and wife Julie, Florissant, and Michael Leonard Schmelz and wife Pamela, Union; one sister, Marie Bartel, Columbia; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was to be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Midlawn Funeral Home, Union. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Midlawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg Cross officiating. Interment will be at Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union.
