Ruth Thevenet Miller, 92, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at her home in Punta Gorda, Florida following a courageous battle with cancer.

Ruth was born on April 19, 1925 to Arthur and Eleanor Thevenet in Newark, New Jersey. She spent most of her formative years in Millburn, New Jersey.

Ruth graduated from Elmira College in 1947 where she met her husband, Arthur. They married on August 14, 1948 and following Arthur's completion of his dental degree, they resided in Elmira, NY. Once their four daughters were off to school, Ruth returned to Elmira College to obtain her Master's degree and was a faculty associate at Elmira College. She was an English teacher for 20 years in the Elmira City School district.

Ruth served on the Elmira Charter Commission, was a member of the Elmira Junior League, the Elmira Country Club and volunteered at Neighborhood House in Elmira. She mentored ELL students for many years at Port Charlotte Middle School. Ruth was a member of Christ's United Methodist Church in Elmira, New York. Ruth was also a 20-year member of the New Floridians and a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, Florida and Bluff Point United Methodist Church in Penn Yan.

Ruth was a wonderfully energetic mother serving as Brownie/Girl Scout leader, holding impromptu picnics in the backyard and neighborhood competitions for the kids at Seneca Lake. She was a friend to many and cherished each and every one of those friendships which served to enrich her outgoing personality. She was a devoted and tolerant wife, camping trips lasting all summer, helping to build their cottage on Keuka Lake, putting up with numerous dogs (most named Skipper) and becoming a good golfer and square dancer. Ruth loved to entertain, play bridge and participate in her book club. Any event hosted at her house was sure to be accompanied by perfectly prepared food and plenty of it.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Arthur ;and their four daughters, Virginia Miller Andrews (Douglas), Constance Miller Bull, Jeanne Miller Marquez and Patricia Miller Philllips (Theodore); she is also survived by 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Eleanor; and her two sisters, Virginia Thevenet, (her twin) and Eleanor Gingrich.

A memorial service will be held at Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, 21075 Quesada Avenue, Port Charlotte at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 5th.
