E.R. (Andy) Anderson, retired resort owner and business entrepreneur
died November 13, 2013 at Prospect Park Living Center. He was 96 years old. Everett Roderick Anderson was born October 25, 1917 to Roderick and Bonnie (Trail) Anderson in Denver, CO.
He graduated from Manuel High School in 1935 and from Colorado State University in 1940 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. While at C.S.U. he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduation he worked for the Colorado Celery Company in Denver, The National Silver Company in Los Angeles, CA and Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, CA. While working in the personnel department at Douglas, he met Martha (Marty) Dailey. Six months later they were married June 16, 1945 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Long Beach. The couple moved to Colorado in 1946 and purchased a small group of cottages in Estes Park and named it Anderson's Wonderview Cottages. By 1970, the cottages and property had expanded and was rated among the top 10 destination resorts in Northern Colorado. During that same time, Andy operated a package liquor store on Elkhorn Avenue and helped manage Mr. Hutchings Texaco and his trout market. So Marty managed the Cottages and Andy kept busy downtown. Between the two of them, they were either officers of, or on the board of directors of almost every major organization, improvement or decision making committee from the mid 1940's to the mid 1980's. They sold the retail businesses in 1981 and Anderson's Wonderview Cottages and Motel in 1986, and built their retirement home in Stanley Hills.
After retirement, Andy wrote 3 histories; The High Drive Area in the 1800's, Trout Haven 1933 to 1967 and Our Lady of the Mountains 1910 to 2007. Andy enjoyed tennis, hiking and presiding at speaking engagements as a humorist and historian.
He is survived by his children May Anderson, David Anderson, Christine Anderson, Maralee Anderson, Brian Sutherland and Michael Anderson, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marty, his parents, one grandson and 2 sisters, one in infancy.
