Long time Estes Park resident N W (Gus) Thomson passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Born in Parlin, New Jersey, Nov 20th 1921. He settled in Hialeah, Florida after being honorably discharged from the U.S. coast Guard
(Navy) 1942-1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific, European-African and Middle Eastern Campaigns.
He joined the Hialeah Fire Department in 1946, and after serving 26 years he retired as Fire Chief in 1972. Gus and his family moved to Estes Park where he worked for the Larimer County Sheriffs Department and later was head of security at the Y.M.C.A. of the Rockies where he retired again in 1990. Already an avid golfer he spent his retirement years playing golf and working part time at the Estes Park golf courses.
Gus was preceded in death by his daughter Lynn Marquez. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys, daughter Norma Friedman (Chip) and son Chuck Thomson (Melissa). Four grandchildren, Brandon Thomson (Jenn), Daniel Mead (Dana), Rudy Marquez III and Lindsey Marquez, also four great-grandchildren, Reece and Acelynn Thomson, and Kaylor and Joslyn Mead.
There will be a private family gathering per his wishes.
