Robert A. DeWitt, age 86 of Longmont died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Longmont United Hospital. Mr. DeWitt was born June 21, 1926 in Brown County, Illinois to Lewis and Bertha (Wort) DeWitt. After graduation from high school, Robert served in the United States Navy
from May 1944 to May 1946. He married Margaret Baker in Versailles, Illinois on January 25, 1948. The DeWitts' lived in Longmont from 1969 to 1973, moving to Estes Park, where they lived from 1973 to 2003, before moving back to Longmont, where he lived until his death.
Robert worked as a rancher and meat cutter prior to retirement and was the caretaker of the Crocker Ranch in Estes Park for many years. In later life he did fret work with a scroll saw and enjoyed woodworking. Robert enjoyed gardening and hunting.
Survivors include two sons, David DeWitt of Longmont and Jeff DeWitt of Colorado Springs. Two daughters also survive, Jeanette Field of Castle Rock, Colorado and Renee Dunbar of Plainview, Minnesota. In addition to his children, one brother, Harold DeWitt of Hot Springs, Arkansas, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren survive him. A daughter, Merry and one grandchild preceded Robert in death.
At Robert's request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place and was entrusted to Howe Mortuary. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the
in care of the mortuary.
