Craig Duell Obituary
Craig Lee Duell, a longtime Estes Park resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in his home with family by his side. Craig was born on September 1, 1961 in Greeley, CO to Lloyd Edwin and Georgia Lee (Lockard) Duell, who moved the family to Estes Park a short time thereafter. He graduated from Estes Park High School in 1979 with a passion for sports and an established reputation for athleticism. Craig enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Aerial Delivery Specialist. Buck Sergeant Duell's expertise was critical in the Air Force's ability to successfully resupply the U.S. Special Forces fighting in Afghanistan. Craig remained in close contact with several of his service mates and frequently attended reunions in Altus, Oklahoma. Upon his return to Estes Park he met his soon-to-be wife Shauna Joyce Edwards, daughter of J. Renz and Mary (Jessen) Edwards. The two were wed on June 7, 1986, at St. Bartholomew's Church. They had two sons, Taylor Lloyd and Jordan Renz, who grew to share their father's passion in sports and hunting. In time, Craig's involvement with his children's athletic careers would lead to his being one of the main advocates for Estes Park High School's baseball and wrestling programs. His other interests included hunting and training hunting dogs for various excursions with his family. He and his sons also shared time restoring classic muscle cars including their 1970 Plymouth Road Runner and 1964 Ford Mustang. Craig's non-military career resided largely in excavation where he honed his skill for building and creating structures through employments with Nytes, Gavell, and Fairbanks excavating companies. His success and expertise in excavation was also shared by his brother Dale, which ultimately led to the formation of Duell Excavating. The family-owned business provided various earth-moving services to individuals and businesses throughout Larimer County and the eastern slope. Craig's sociability, charisma, and welcoming nature were ever-present in his business relations and personal life. His impact on his family, friends, and the Estes Park community are lasting and he will be truly missed. Craig is preceded in death by father Lloyd and survived by mother Georgia, wife Shauna and sons Taylor and Jordan in addition to his four siblings: Marilyn with three children December, Haley with husband Ryan and child Lorelei, and Jared; Jim with wife Lisa; Carol with husband Marc and two children Aaron and Allison; Dale with wife Shaleen and two children Alexandra and Trevyn. On the Edwards side, he is survived by Shauna's father Renz and mother Mary and her two siblings: Robyn with husband Jeff and four children David with wife Becky and three children, Micah, Josia and Zachary; Daniel, Josh and Stephen; Melody with husband Jack and three children Shane, Austin and Faith; and Aunt Phyllis Edwards. A celebration of Craig's life will be held at 2:00p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church located at 880 MacGregor Ave. in Estes Park, CO. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ben St. John GoFundMe. com account established online under "Craig Duell's Memorial Service Cost."
