Dennis "Denny" McHenry Obituary
Estes Park resident Dennis "Denny" McHenry died at Prospect Park Living Center on Wednesday September 25, 2013. He was 87 years old. W. Dennis McHenry was born October 11, 1925 in Denison, IA. His parents were George and Nell (Evans) McHenry.
Dennis was raised in the Chicago area and graduated from Highland Park High School, Iowa State University and received his Master's degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. He taught for 2 years at All Saints Parochial School before starting his 31 year career at the Rock Island Arsenal as Supervisor in the Analytical Chemistry and Metallurgy Laboratory. During World War II he joined the United States Army Combat Engineers in Europe, participating in 3 battles. On August 12, 1950 he married Roberta (Bobbie) Mohr in Davenport, IA. After they both retired, they moved to Estes Park, CO on November 1, 1983, a place they had visited since the early 1960's, as part of the Iowa Mountaineers. There, Dennis was active in and past President of the Rotary Club of Estes Park, St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Church which he helped build, played an active role with The Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highlands Festival almost from it's beginning, was a Chevalier in The Imperial Constantinian Order of St. George, the Lions Club, Model Railroad Club, past President of Windcliff Homeowners Association, was Chairman of the Estes Park Library Building Committee, the National Insulators Association, AARP, and the Estes Park Genealogical Society. He had traced his family history back to the 1500s.
Bobbie died in 2010. Dennis is survived by, cousins Jane Douglas and Sandy McHenry, 2 nieces Susan McHenry and Carol Linden. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. Services will be announced at a later date.
