Gene Eggers Obituary
Estes Park resident Gene Eggers died peacefully at his home on November 4, 2013, following a short, but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at age 75. Eugene Arnold Eggers was born June 26, 1938 in Chicago, IL. to parents Edward and Emilie (Mickley) Eggers. Gene graduated in 1960 from Valparaiso University in Indiana and from Ohio University in Athens in 1962 with a Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry. He was a chemist with IBM for 32 years having worked in Endicott, NY; Tucson, AZ and Austin, TX, earning Outstanding Achievement Awards and a patent application. Following his retirement from IBM, Gene added a career of sales, installation, and service of Allen Organs. On August 13, 1977 he married Phyllis Jean Eldridge in Endwell, NY. After retiring from IBM in 1994, they first moved to Tucson, then to the mountains of Estes Park, CO, where he was a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church, the Estes Park Oratorio Society and the Mountain Men Chorus. Gene's lifelong passions included playing 18 holes of golf, music, building model railroads, and anything electronic.
Gene is survived by his wife Phyllis of Estes Park, daughter Gail Quarberg and her husband Brad of
La Crosse, WI, their children Nicolas and Merideth, step-sons Daniel Baker and wife Natalya of Cave Creek, AZ, their son Nickolas, Timothy Baker and wife Lynn of California, MD, their children Matthew, Michael and Megan, a sister Arletta Mundt and husband Arthur of Orland Park, IL., and nieces Elise Elke and Nadine Hoger and their families from the Chicago area, and brother-in-law Fred Eldridge and wife Cathy of Chapel Hill, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at Shepherd of the Mountains Church.
