George Sykes Obituary
Estes Park resident George Sykes died at Prospect Park Living Center early Thursday morning November 3, 2016. He was 91 years old. George Frederick Sykes, Jr. was born February 4, 1925 in Oak Park, IL. His parents were George F. Sykes, Sr. and Eunice (Wilson) Sykes. George received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, where he was active in theatrical productions and joined the Actors Guild of Colleges of America. George served as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the East Coast during World War II. On November 1, 1947 he married Carol Kling, his high school sweetheart, in Oak Park, IL. George and Carol celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary shortly before he died. George was employed at Benjamin Electric Manufacturing Company of Des Plaines, IL as a purchasing agent. He later embarked on self-employed ventures in publishing, developing and selling specialty publications. In 1963 he moved his family and his business, George Sykes Publishing, to Estes Park. George enjoyed traveling and videography. He was also a talented illustrator and actually designed two of the family's homes - one in Dundee, IL and one in Estes Park. George is survived by his wife Carol of Estes Park, sons Jeff Sykes (Robin) of Arvada, CO and George F. "Ole" Sykes III (Katy) of Estes Park and daughter Beth Cutter (Steve) of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert. Private family services have been held.
