Grace Macleod Nelms Obituary
Grace Macleod Nelms, 83, of Cedar Park, Texas, died September 30 , 2014. Mrs. Nelms was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 24, 1931 and was a retired fashion illustrator for JC Penney, EM Kahn and McClurkans. In her early marriage she was a draftsman for Superior Oil Company and Standard Oil of Texas. Mrs. Nelms was an avid tennis player and played league tennis in Dallas, TX, Destin, FL and Estes Park, CO. In Dallas she was a choir member and served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Richardson. After retiring to Estes Park, CO and Destin, FL, she was an active member singing in the choir, Deacon and volunteering at Vacation Bible School at the Community Church of the Rockies in Estes Park. She was on the board of Directors of Columbines. Mrs. Nelms graduated from Wichita Falls (Texas) H.S. in 1949. Mrs. Nelms earned a B.S. in Home Economics at The University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, sang in The University of Oklahoma Choir and was named Big Woman on Campus. Mrs. Nelms achieved the great honor of being selected one of twenty college women to be a "guest editor" at Mademoiselle Magazine in NYC in 1953. She is the daughter of the late Norman R. Macleod and the late Irma Hicks Macleod. She was the widow of Jerry Lynn Nelms, having been married for 53 years.

Mrs. Nelms is survived by her daughters, Lucinda Cox of Austin, Texas and Barbara Macleod of Dallas, Texas, one sister, Mildred Turner of Columbia, South Carolina, and 2 grandchildren: Eloine Ashmore and Devin Ashmore of Austin, Texas. She was predeceased by her brother Norman Richard Macleod.

The family requests that memorials may be made to Hospice Austin or the YMCA of the Rockies.
