Irene (Winkler) Vanatta Obituary
Irene Vanatta, 103, of Fort Collins, CO., formerly of Estes Park, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Columbine West Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Collins, CO. She was surrounded by several of her family. Irene was born in Crete, NB to Albert and Rose Anna Winkler. The family homesteaded in Keota, CO in 1913. She graduated from high school in Basin, WY in 1929. During a marriage to Auberdeen Clement she had one daughter, Janet. She moved to Longmont, CO in the mid 1930's and was a waitress at Williams Café for several years.
Irene married John Vanatta in 1948 and had one son, Walter later that year. The family moved to Estes Park in 1952. Irene was a waitress at the Timberline Steakhouse for 22 years and, at the age of 70, retired in 1981. That year she relocated to Fort Collins to be closer to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and her bother Raymond. She is survived by her daughter Janet and her husband Jim Pflipsen of Fort Collins, her son Walter and his wife Cathy of Craig, CO, and Step-Son Roger Vanatta and his wife Lydia of Weippe, Id, 12 grand-children, 25 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Sunday, September 7th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. with the Recitation of The Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Allnutt Drake Chapel, Fort Collins. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 8, 2014 at 10:00 am at John XXIII Church in Fort Collins.
