Kathleen Kay Cessna Obituary
Kay Cessna transitioned to her next journey while at home on May 6th, 2018 surrounded with love from her family. Kathleen Kay Cessna known as Kay was born on March 2nd, 1943 in Havensville, Kansas in the home of her grandparents. She graduated from Estes Park High School in 1961. From there she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UNC in Greeley, Colorado. She started her teaching in Illinois and Texas and then moved to Colorado and started teaching as a 5th grade teacher in Windsor and soon found her calling working with students with Special Needs. She has worked for the Colorado Department of Education sharing her knowledge with teachers around the state. From there, she moved on to become the Special Education Services Director for Jefferson County Schools. After retirement she continued to consult with various agencies and school districts throughout the state. The loves of Kay's life were spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading, and spreading her infectious smile and spirit. She will be remembered by many for her compassionate heart, her ever welcoming smile, her gentleness and her amazing mind that was forever hungry to continue to learn and grow. She was deeply involved in her church St. Andrew Methodist Church, PEO, The Classics - Red Hat Group, her book club and many other groups with her friends. Kay is survived by her two daughters Tracie (Brian) McIntyre of Aurora and Erin (Pete) Scheck of Ft. Collins. Five grandchildren Marissa, Trevor, Weston, Elise and Levi, Ex-husband David Cessna of Greeley, two sisters Vicki Hogue of Aurora, Glenda (John) Otto of Ft. Collins, and two beloved nephews and a niece. Memorial contributions can be made to any of the numerous organizations Kay supported: The Women's Bean Project, St. Andrew's Church, Habitat for Humanity, Family Promise, CASA or any other cause you feel would honor Kay. Services for Kay will be Thursday, May 10th 10:30 am at St. Andrew Methodist Church 9203 S. University Blvd. HR, CO 80126
