Ron graduated from Helix High School in San Diego and spent four years in the Navy before returning to college and becoming a middle school teacher. Ron married Marsha Williams in 1973 in Northern California then moved to Colorado where he and his wife raised their two children.

After moving to Estes Park in 1982, Ron continued teaching piano lessons and owned a music store as well as playing dinner piano at the Olympus Lodge and the Black Canyon Inn in Estes Park and at the Walnut Brewery and Boulderado Hotel in Boulder.
Ron also had a love of the outdoors and hiking. He was proud to have climbed Mt. McKinley in California more than once and scaled Longs Peak and other Rocky Mountain peaks with his wife and children.
