Shirley Lang passed away on August, 6 2013 at home at Good Samaritan Village.|
Shirley was born in 1921 in Wilber, Nebraska, to William and Gladys Savage. She attended schools in Wilber, Nebraska. Upon graduation, she taught school for two years and then decided upon a nursing career and enrolled in the Sophy Teeters School of Nursing at the Lincoln General Hospital where she attended the University of Nebraska. Since it was war time, Shirley enrolled as a Cadet Nurse.
On April 23, 1945, she and Richard Lang, a member of the Army Air Corps, were married in Pueblo, Colorado. After his service years ended they moved to Ohio.
Through the years, Shirley worked as a Registered Nurse in many locations. She also was a volunteer nurse at swimming pools and at the Museum of Science and Industry in Columbus, Ohio.
Shirley and Richard had two daughters. As an active mother and member of the community, she was a Girl Scout leader for fifteen years, an active member of her church and in various community organizations.
Shirley had a great love for the outdoors and outdoor sports. In 1981, Shirley and Richard, having vacationed in Rocky Mountain National Park for years, followed their love of the area and retired to Estes Park. In Estes Park, she was an active member of the Community Church of the Rockies. She was an early member of Hospice and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HF, Estes Park Woman's Club, and at one time a member of the League of Women Voters. She was a charter member of the Trailmasters hiking group and a member of The Over The Hill hiking group.
Shirley had a great love for her family and was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her husband, two brothers and a son-in-law preceded her in death. She will be missed by her daughter Linda Wold and her husband Michael Wold, daughter Laura Lang, grandchildren Julie Wold Scholes and her husband Travis Scholes and Stephen Wold and his wife Lori Wold, and great-grandchildren Tyler and Connor Scholes and Katheryne and Jessalyn Wold. With all of them she shared fun, laughter, values and love.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday August 25, 2013 at3:00 pm at the main dining room of Good Samaritan Village.
