Verna (Fluke) Jones Obituary
Estes Park resident Verna Jones passed away at Prospect Park Living Center on March 24, 2014. She was 88 years old. Verna Lou Fluke was born January 26, 1926 in Pueblo, Colo. Her parents were Levi and Rosilla (Schlunegger) Fluke.
Verna graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, where she excelled in academics and was an award winning member of the girl's rifle club. On August 30, 1952 she married Roy T. Jones in Pueblo.  The couple moved to Battle Creek, Mich., where Verna was an office manager at Federal Home Insurance Company.

Verna was a leader in local 4-H clubs, and she enjoyed riding and caring for horses with her daughter Sandy.  She was also an aspiring author and submitted several articles for publication.  Verna was interested in arts and crafts, was accomplished in leather craft and sewing, and she set up and managed several home based businesses. She was musically inclined, and played several instruments including Hawaiian guitar, violin and piano.  Verna promoted similar diverse interests as a component in raising her children. The family attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Battle Creek, and later Verna and Roy were parishioners at Our Lady of the Mountains in Estes Park.

In 1983 the couple fulfilled a dream and retired to Estes Park, where they enjoyed hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, reading books, improving their newly purchased home and simply savoring retirement in the Rocky Mountains. Verna and Roy visited their daughter and son-in-law frequently in California, and they were instrumental in raising their granddaughter Lindsey in Colorado. Verna was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and spearheaded the movement to establish a local chapter.  Verna and Roy recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She will be forever remembered as a totally devoted wife and mother, as well as an intelligent and independently minded individual.

Verna is survived by her husband Roy, daughter Sandra Burns of Estes Park, son Vincent of Thornton, Colo., and sister Evelyn Razor of Pueblo. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
