Harry Lee Hutcherson |
Long time Estes Park resident Harry L. Hutcherson, "Hutch", 83 years of age, died at his home on April 12, 2014.
He was born June 14, 1930 in Palmyra, Missouri, to Eugene and Mildred (Fishback) Hutcherson.
Harry graduated from Blewett High School in 1947 and from Rubican Business College in 1948, located in St. Louis, Missouri. In his early years, he was a Junior Leader in "Y" work; an Eagle Scout, holder of God and Country and Order of the Arrow, and a camp counselor and was active in sports and service organizations. He attended University of Missouri studying pre-journalism. He served as Field Specialist in the US Army, qualifying for Officer Candidate School. While stationed at Fort Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii, he served as administrative NCO, and was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Corporal.
He spent his early career in St. Louis as a specialist in corporate communications, and four years overseas with Sverdrup & Parcel Engineering Company in Bangkok, Thailand. He returned to St. Louis and joined his father in the family business, The Modern Crafts Company, manufacturing juvenile furniture and sporting goods.
In 1961, Harry married Marian Kelder in Amsterdam, Holland. They raised two daughters in St. Louis, Christine and Sandra.
Following their divorce, Harry relocated to Springfield, Virginia. Harry met Ruth Levin and they married in 1980. Together they raised her three daughters, Leslie, Mindy and Jody. In 1986, Harry and Ruth moved to Estes Park where he joined his father in the interior decorating and custom upholstery business. Later, Harry established his own custom window covering business as Hutcherson Associates.
Harry loved to work and loved to play just as much. Always active and energetic, he was a devoted member of the Sports Car Club of America, the Estes Park Noon Rotary, the Estes Park Car Club, and the Estes Park Golf Association. He enjoyed photography, skiing and gathering friends for a meal, a round of golf, or a flea market shopping trip. His children and grandchildren looked forward to being the recipients of his many garage sale finds, packed with pun-filled notes attached and layers of liquid cement. He was a devoted husband, brother, friend, father and grandfather.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, his dear sister, Charlotte Lloyd, his two daughters, Christine Hutcherson (Eric) of Silver Spring, MD, and Sandra Hutcherson Hon (Doug) of St. Peters, MO; grandchildren Nicholas Hon (Kathleen) of St. Louis, MO, Meredith Fullerton (Dustin), Emily Hon and Elizabeth Hon of St. Peters, MO; his step-daughters Leslie Levin and her daughter, Leigh; Mindy Flory (Michael) and their children, Jason and Sara, of Springfield, VA; and Jody Schlabach (Josh) and her children Nicole and Toni Marie of Sebastian, FL.
