Beth E. Wood

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Beth Ellen Young Wood, age 78, of Erie, at Twinbrook Medical Center on November 21, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Beth passed peacefully with the same dignity and grace that she had throughout her life. She was born in Erie on June 4, 1934, daughter of the late Elmo and Mildred Young and stepdaughter of the late Lillian Young. Beth began working at G.E. in Erie, where she worked for several years. She then moved to the D.C. area and worked for the U.S. Government at the Pentagon. It was there that she met, and went on to marry, Charles E. Wood. Together, they had two daughters, Lauren Beth and Leslie Noel, as well as her two stepchildren, Barbara Wood Gomez of Aurora, Colo. and Timothy Paul Wood of Abbottsville, Pa. Beth and her young family went on to live in many places with Charles' career in the U.S. Air Force. After her retirement in 1995, she moved to Pittsburgh to be with Leslie and her toddler and newborn. Beth loved being a "Nana" to her granddaughters and was greatly loved in return. Theirs was a very special bond. Beth returned to her home in Erie to live out the rest of her life, where she enjoyed the closeness and love of her sister, Pat Carr. She was active in her church, Wesleyville United Methodist Church, and enjoyed her church family. Beth leaves behind her daughter, Leslie Noel Sangricco; two granddaughters, Emily Rae Fick, who is attending college at RMU in Pittsburgh and Hannah Jeanne Fick, of Concord, N.C.; four grandsons, John, Jr., Nick, Nathan and Adam Andrews McCombe, all grown young men, of Boulder, Colo., one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth, also of Boulder; two sisters, Willow Young Vicary (Chuck) of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Patty Young Carr (Herb) of Erie; many nieces and nephews. Beth was preceded in death and welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by her parents; her daughter, Lauren Beth; and her beloved son-in-law, Peter John Fick of Pittsburgh. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Pamela Gardener. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3308 South St., Erie, PA 16510. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road.
