Carl R. Phister, Jr., age 90, of Erie, passed away at his residence, Friday, May 2, 2014. Born December 26, 1923 in Erie, he was the son of the late Carl R. and Margaret (Schrieffer) Phister, Sr.
Carl graduated from Sacred Heart School, Cathedral Prep Class of 1942, and Gannon College. He served our country in World War II
in the Army Air Corps where he flew 35 missions out of England as a bombardier in a B17 fighter plane. Carl was later called back to serve in the United States Air Force in Japan during the Korean War
. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve.
Carl worked as a corporate accountant at Hammermill Paper Company for forty years until his retirement in 1988. He was a longtime member of St. Luke Church and a lifetime member of the Erie Maennerchor Club.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Audrey Ring Phister on May 5, 1955.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Phister, of Philadelphia; a sister, Marge Knox, husband Bob, of Erie; and six nieces, Kate Openlander, Chris Sechrist, Carrie Ward, Julie McCain, and Amy Arrowsmith, all of Erie, and Patty Moody of Miami, Fla.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St. Services will be held there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th St. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
