Charles L. Conway Jr.

Charles L. Conway Jr., 45, of Erie, died Friday, May 3, 2013, at Millcreek Community Hospital. He was born in Erie on January 14, 1968, a son of the late Sandra M. and Charles L. Conway Sr. Chuck was proud of his success as area director for Wendy's of Erie and devoted himself to caring for his customers and employees, while serving as a conscientious steward for his employers, the Fox family, to whom he was exceedingly grateful. Most of all, he was kind and generous, a passionate, energetic life force who was the center of every gathering he chose to join or create, a fierce friend, and a loving partner and parent. His family -- especially his mother, partner and daughter, and a large, close circle of friends, who revered him as brother, son, uncle and pushover dad -- were the center of his life. He also loved music, especially his lifelong interest in the rock band KISS, horror films, and throwing unforgettable parties. He was an amazing dancer, stylish dresser and a wonderful confidant, seemingly to all. His smile could light up any room. The greatest moment of his life was meeting his beautiful daughter, Hollie Rapp, for the first time, on October 5, 2012. He loved her madly in the seven months they had together, deeply regretted their 22 lost years, and was so proud to attend her college graduation on April 28. In addition to his daughter, of Warren, Pa., he is survived by his partner of 14 years, Jeffrey Hileman, of Erie; sisters, Teresa Swanson and companion, Terry, Mary Swanson, Sandra Zatkiewicz and husband, Troy, and Nancy Conway and companion Dave, all of Erie; brothers Jeffery Swanson, of Erie, and Glen Swanson and wife, Lisa Rubio Swanson, of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless co-workers and friends, who will cherish his memory and example. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St., on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Richard A. Moyer, pastor of Community United Church, officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Development Office, 716 Mount Airyshire Blvd., Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43235 or online at www.davethomasfoundation.org.
