Chester J. "Chet" Walkiewicz Jr.

Chester J. "Chet" Walkiewicz, Jr., age 73, of Millcreek passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at his residence after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Erie on December 11, 1938 a son of the late Chester J. Walkiewicz, Sr. and Helen (Rutkowski) Walkiewicz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley (Pilgere) Walkiewicz. He was a graduate of Tech Memorial and was a member of the track team there. Chet worked as a printer for the Erie Times-News for 45 years and also worked for many years as a guard on armored trucks for several companies. Chet was an active member of St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community, the Word of Life Center and the Light of the World Prayer Group. He enjoyed traveling and spending time on his computer. He especially enjoyed family gatherings at the holidays and on special occasions. Chet is survived by his wife Theresa Ann "T.A." (Torchia) Walkiewicz; two children, Cathy Walkiewicz of Erie and Chester J. Walkiewicz, III (Pamela) of Huntsville, Alabama; six grandchildren, Jamie Fuhrer (Zack), Jennifer Walkiewicz, Andrew Walkiewicz (Lynn), Donald Shakespeare (Deanna), Robert Shakespeare and Daniel Shakespeare; eight great-grandchildren: Alexis, Andrew, Allie, Anna, Avalyn, Tyler, Linley and Dominick. Other survivors include a brother, Thomas Walkiewicz (Judy) of Edinboro and a sister, Margie Walkiewicz (friend Miles Kovski) of Erie and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Friday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
