Damien Francis Coughlin

Damien Francis Coughlin, age 14, of Edinboro, received his wings for his return to Heaven on Friday, March 29, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center, surrounded by his family, whom he touched in magnificent ways throughout his short, yet very memorable life. Born at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., January 13, 1999, he was the son of Christopher D. and Kimberley A. (Kosinski) Coughlin. Damien's life was short, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of life far exceeded the quantity of time in which he lived. His smile, sense of humor and boisterous laugh melted the hearts of those around him, and even though his speech was limited, his voice and thoughts were always understood by his immediate family. Damien possessed strength, perseverance and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With his courage, he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. He could spend hours cuddling close to those he loved and would always give us a laugh to make us smile. His kind and gentle spirit will always live in our hearts. Damien enjoyed music, bowling, soccer, horseback riding, reading stories, iPad fireworks, and most of all, swimming. He loved the colors blue, purple and yellow. He loved to be with his sister, whom he called "Dalano." With Damien's passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. We will miss him every day, especially his hugs, winning smile and boisterous laugh. He will forever remain in our hearts and minds. With his love, we created wonderful memories, and it has been a joy and privilege to be his parents. Damien was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Carole (Crawford) Kosinski; paternal great-grandparents, including Betty Soboleski and Francis Coughlin. He is survived by his loving parents, Christopher and Kimberley Coughlin and his sister Dalanie, all of Edinboro; paternal grandparents, Dennis and Betty (Soboleski) Coughlin, of McKean; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including his wonderful school caregivers, Elie Rivera and Bob Knox, who provided love and support, which truly enhanced his life. Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., Tuesday from 12 o'clock noon until the time of a prayer at 2:15 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Peter Cathedral, at 3 p.m. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery, in McKean, will be at a later date.
